Face Fit Testing

It's that time again, we are doing Face Fit Re-Tests on all of our operatives to combat Silica Dust. If inhaled can turn into Silicosis. Silicosis is a disabling, irreversible, and sometimes fatal lung disease. When a worker inhales crystalline silica, the lungs react by developing hard nodules and scarring around the trapped silica particles. If the nodules become too large, breathing becomes difficult and can result in death.

Facepiece fit testing is a method of checking that a tight-fitting facepiece matches the wearer’s facial features and seals adequately to their face. It will also help to identify unsuitable facepieces that should not be used. Remember that tight-fitting RPE will only provide effective protection if the wearer is clean shaven, so they should also be clean shaven when fit tested.

We have members of staff who are trained in carrying out the test. If you have any questions or wish to be tested yourself please get in touch!
