As you may be aware back in October, a sinkhole appeared in the night in Fontmell Close, St Albans. Access for residents was unavailable for residents wishing to drive. Residents had to park in a car park and then was ferried across a playing field in a 4 x 4 to an access point, which was causing damage to the playing field as you can imagine with the change in weather.
DJT Surfacing Ltd, were approached by AMEY to build a temporary road for the 4 x 4 to have a hard standing surface to access Fontmell Close as the sinkhole was situated in the middle of the street. This road will be in use for approximately 6-12 months.
Works consisted of grading out the existing surface and laying down terram and geogrid textile, then laying type one stone in three layers, in between each layer of Type One there was a layer of terram and geogrid installed.
Construction works on this project were started on 5th December 2015 and lasted until 16th December 2015
